When you take Senokot® Laxatives, senna — the active agent in all Senokot® Laxative products — remains largely inactive until it reaches the colon where special enzymes convert the senna into aglycones.
These senna aglycones stimulate a nerve network called Auerbach’s plexus which, in turn, sets in motion a series of wave-like contractions called peristalsis. It is peristalsis that moves the stool along and results in a bowel movement, usually within 6 to 12 hours.
When taken at bedtime, the purified, standardized senna in all Senokot® Laxatives provide for gentle, overnight relief of occasional constipation. |
